Terms of Service

These Terms govern your use of Tonglift. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to them. If you don't agree, don't use Tonglift.

1. Who we are

2. The service

Tonglift is an AI-powered language-speaking tutor for German, Spanish and French. It provides conversational practice, real-time corrections, a personal curriculum, vocabulary tools, and a community lesson library. Features and supported languages may change over time.

3. Your account

You must provide accurate information and keep your login credentials secure.
You are responsible for activity under your account.
You must be at least 16, or have the consent of a holder of parental responsibility.
One person per account; don't share or resell access.

4. Plans, billing & refunds

Free plan is available indefinitely. Paid plans (Starter, Fluent, Immersive) and add-ons are billed monthly or annually.
Payments are handled by our payment provider, Polar, acting as merchant of record. Your purchase is also subject to Polar's terms.
Subscriptions auto-renew until cancelled. You can cancel anytime; access continues until the end of the paid period.
14-day full refund on paid plans. Where required by EU consumer law, you also have a statutory 14-day right of withdrawal. [Confirm withdrawal-waiver wording for digital services with your lawyer.]
We may change prices; changes apply to future billing periods and we'll give reasonable notice.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to: break the law; upload unlawful, hateful, or infringing content; abuse, reverse-engineer, scrape, or overload the service; resell it; or attempt to circumvent usage limits or security. "Unlimited" conversation is subject to fair use ([~25 h/mo]); beyond that, responses may slow.

6. Your content & community lessons

You keep ownership of the lessons, vocabulary, and content you create. By publishing a lesson to the community library, you grant other users and us a worldwide, royalty-free licence to use, display, copy, and remix it within Tonglift. Private content stays private. We may remove content that violates these Terms. You can export your data and delete your content at any time.

7. AI output disclaimer

Corrections, translations, and lesson content are generated by AI and may be incomplete or wrong. Tonglift is a learning aid, not a certified translation, examination, or professional language service. Use judgement before relying on any output.

8. Availability & "as is"

We work to keep Tonglift available but do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service. The service is provided "as is" and "as available" to the maximum extent permitted by law. Voice conversation requires an internet connection.

9. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or loss of data or profits. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law (including, for EU consumers, liability for intent, gross negligence, or injury to life/body/health, and mandatory statutory consumer rights). 10. Termination

You may stop using Tonglift and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these Terms. On termination, your right to use the service ends; your data is handled per the Privacy Policy.

11. Governing law & disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of [Germany / your country], without prejudice to mandatory consumer-protection rules of your country of residence.
